Special consideration for Brachycephalic Breeds such as: French Bulldogs, English Bulldogs, Shih Tzu etc...
(breeds with short muzzles).
Every patient has an inherent risk with anesthesia; however brachycephalic breeds have an increased risk of anesthesia related complications. Therefore, we have created specific steps during intake:
1. Every owner of this breed of dog MUST fill out a specific HIGH-RISK WAIVER for Brachycephalic (will be provided at time of intake).
2. Owner must wait for our veterinarian to do a full exam on their pet before they leave. If our veterinarian or surgery team do not feel comfortable admitting the dog for surgery your deposit will be refunded and other options will be discussed.

Special consideration for Doberman Pinchers.
Doberman Pinschers have an increased risk of a genetic bleeding disorder called von Willebrand’s Disease. Because of this, all Doberman Pinschers must provide proof of a negative von Willebrand’s test before scheduling surgery at Hearts for Paws.
If your Doberman has not been tested, we can collect a blood sample here at Hearts for Paws and submit it to our lab for testing. Surgery appointments can only be confirmed once a negative result has been received.
